Don’t Be Afraid

July 18, 2020

But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them. Genesis 50:19-21 (NLT)

Dear Cathedral Family,

Thank you so much for all your prayers over the last few weeks for the Lewis, Turner, and Ammons families. We’re all well on the other side of COVID-19 with just a few lingering effects – primarily loss of taste and smell and some tiredness. Having gone through this personally, I encourage you to keep praying for those who are battling this virus and for our healthcare workers as they continue on the front lines.

I’m reminded of one of our very first messages back in March. We talked about faith, family & friends being three essentials for holding onto hope in the midst of crisis. That’s exactly how we’ve been weathering the last four months. These anchors will continue to hold us steady in the days to come.

Our journey through the life of Joseph in our current series, Designed to Overcome, has provided so much encouragement, reminding us that no matter how dark the days may look, it’s not over. We still have a future ahead of us. We may be going through disheartening times, but God still has plans for us, just like He did for Joseph. God is still on the throne and nothing surprises or upsets Him.

Even when everything seems out of control, we still have the choice of standing in faith instead of giving in to fear, and being faithful exactly where God has placed us. I’m looking forward to this Sunday and hearing the message Pastor Eddie has prepared. I hope you’ll join us online at 11am via Livestream or Facebook Live or in-person at 9am and 11am!

Better together,

Mike Lewis
