Dear Cathedral Family,
I just wanted to update you on what has been going on with Dean. (If you’re new to the Cathedral email list, Dean is my incredible wife!) Before you read further, be assured that there’s a lot of God’s favor and goodness to celebrate in the midst of what could have turned out very differently.
Beginning last week, Dean started experiencing unusually extreme back pain. On Sunday morning, she was up at the church before the 11am service and had a troubling episode with shortness of breath. We decided the best course of action would be to take her to the ER. After the team at St. Francis evaluated her, they told us that she had suffered a heart attack and transferred her to the cardiac ICU at Roper Hospital downtown.
She had a cardiac catheterization yesterday afternoon and did GREAT! Her doctor placed 3 stents, dramatically improving blood flow to her heart. (The cath team played beach music for her during the procedure, which she loved!) Thankfully, very little damage was done to the heart itself despite a complete blockage in one of the main coronary arteries.
I’m thrilled to report that Dean was able to come home today! Next Thursday, we’ll meet with her cardiologist to discuss placing more stents. Following that procedure, she will begin a cardiac rehab program. We have great expectations for the journey ahead. Her doctor projects a fantastic recovery and said she should live a long, healthy life!
All we can say right now is YAY, GOD!!! We have seen His hand and experienced such favor over the last few days. Her doctor even let me stay with her overnight in ICU!
Thank you for loving us so well! Please join me in praying for Dean’s ongoing recovery. We’re believing for her heart to be strong and healthy for many, many, many years to come!
God bless you all!
Better together,
Pastor Mike Lewis
