Note from Mike – Yay God!

November 10, 2017

This Sunday, we’re celebrating Cathedral’s 30th Anniversary!

During our staff meeting this week, I asked, “What one word describes your Cathedral experience?” Here are some of their responses; perhaps one or more will resonate with you.

Redemptive, Growth, Grace, Exciting
Freedom, Life-giving, Fun, Extraordinary, Joyful
Home, Family, Sweet

That last word – sweet – reminded me of something one of my spiritual mentors shared on Cathedral’s first anniversary. Speaking into our future, he encouraged us to “keep the sweetness, keep the love.”

As I reflect on these last 30 years, what overwhelms me is the faithfulness of God, His goodness, His sweetness, and His love. That’s why it’s so important to me that our celebration this Sunday be focused on God – an enthusiastic “Yay God!”

He is everything! Our past, our present, our future – anything that we ever have or will accomplish – all are dependent on and a result of His grace.

Our heart has always been that this would be a place where people would encounter the life-changing presence of God. One of the songs we’ll sing this Sunday, Holy Ground, sums it up so well:

Chains fall  Fear bow  Here, now
Jesus, You change everything
Lives healed  Hope found  Here, now
Jesus, You change everything

I look forward to being with you this Sunday as we celebrate this 30-year milestone, with laughter and some tears, remembering the past and looking forward to the future. Come expectant! Come ready to worship with your whole heart. I’m believing that God is going to visit us in an amazing and glorious way!

Then, we’ll continue the celebration with a family picnic. Bring your blankets, chairs, games, and cash for the food trucks (see our social media for more details).

Thank you for being part of the story that God is writing here at Cathedral – our story – His story. May future generations continue to build on the foundationof a love for God’s word, hunger for His presence, and the commitment to be salt and light in our world. May we all be world changers who bring Him glory!

I’ll see you Sunday!
