Dear Cathedral Family,
Do you like pound cake? My family loves it, and my wife Dean’s pound cake is amazing! She has tweaked the recipe and the way she bakes it over the years to get it “just right” – so much so that it usually gets devoured in one sitting.
Cooking can give us some great insights into relationships. It’s important to put the right ingredients in and keep the wrong ones out to get the final flavor you want. Then there’s making sure the temperature is not too cold and not too hot and staying aware of timing. So many details! Great cooks know how little things make all the difference.
One of the most important ingredients in our relationships is LOVE – not just romantic feelings but love in action. We often hear the following passage from 1 Corinthians 13 in marriage vows:
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NLT)
We’ll dive deeper into the keys to lasting, healthy, blessed relationships like God intended for us this Sunday as we continue our series, The Vow. I trust that you enjoyed Bo and Alyce Reeves last week. If you’ve missed any of the series so far, you can catch up here.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
