Legacy Builders

July 1, 2022

Dear Cathedral Family,

It’s been a while since I’ve shared a Note from Mike with you. If you’re new to Cathedral, let me give you some context. As a church, we have been in a transition season for the last few years in preparation for my shift to the role of Founding Pastor and the installation of Luke and Megan Turner and Dave and Macie Ammons as Cathedral’s Lead Pastors. I shared more in-depth about this process in a message earlier this year and explained why the church would see less of me out front as my distance would create space for them to continue to rise in their leadership.

Rest assured, Dean and I are still here. We’re thoroughly enjoying being “grandparents” to the church and so thrilled for the future of Cathedral. We truly believe that the best is yet to come. I’ll still be speaking occasionally. This Sunday, I look forward to sharing with you during our Independence Day service. During these turbulent times in our country and the world, it’s the foundational truths found in God’s Word that help us keep our footing and our hope. The church is still the hope of the world and America!

To bring hope and be the salt and light that Jesus calls us to be in our world, we must speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:14-16). To do so, we must know the truth and have God’s love in our hearts to give. It’s important to us to provide resources to help you grow in those areas. That’s why we’re excited for you to hear from our guest Ben Schettler during our services on Sunday, July 10. He’s a colleague of Dr. Glen Schultz and the founder of the Center for Truth in Love, an organization that seeks to equip believers in apologetics, biblical worldview, and cultural engagement. We’re confident that his message will serve you well!

Then, starting July 17, we’ll take the next few weeks to talk about abortion and the recent Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. It’s important as believers to understand what God has to say about life and how to have discussions about tough issues like this. If you or someone you know has had an abortion, this will be a safe place! Our heart is to minister grace and healing as we speak the truth in love. I invite you to begin praying over these services as we believe for God’s Spirit to move in a mighty way!

And finally, save the date! On August 7Brother Charles Simpson will be with us and we’ll be officially setting in Luke, Megan, Dave and Macie as our new Lead Pastors. They count it an honor to be called, chosen and entrusted with the great responsibility of leading this amazing congregation! I trust that you will support them, pray for them and serve alongside them as the Cathedral family has done for me since 1987. Cathedral, the foundation has been laid. It’s time to build!

Building legacy together,

Pastor Mike Lewis
