Dear Cathedral Family,

One of my dear friends and long-time member of our pastoral staff, Linwood “Bill” W. Stancil, Jr., woke up in heaven yesterday! Ever quick-witted, Bill most likely made a grand and memorable entrance.

Bill and his wife, Jan, first started attending Cathedral when we were meeting in the Best Western Hotel in the late 1980’s. He came on staff in the early 1990s, heading up our pastoral care team. I wonder how many of you reading this today had the privilege of having Bill pray a blessing over your child during the last 32 years. Or perhaps Bill visited you in the hospital when you were sick or facing surgery. He LOVED to pray for people!

We will gather to celebrate Bill’s life with his wife, Jan; son, William; family and friends this coming Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Visitation will begin at 10am, followed by a memorial service at 11am in the Worship Center. You may click here to view his full obituary and perhaps share your memories of Bill.

Bill knew what it was like to live with a confident belief in God. He knew God, personally and intimately. That assurance and peace always came through when you interacted with Bill. I think if Bill could speak to us today, he’d encourage us to take the journey to know God.

That’s what we’re continuing to go after this Sunday in our “I Want to Believe in God, but…” series. After last Sunday, I can hardly wait to see what God has in store for us. All I can say is, “Come EXPECTANT!”

I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
